“It was about a year ago that I was introduced to Dennis Lowery and Adducent. My husband had completed his memoir just a few months before he died, and I wanted to have it published for the family. I was immediately impressed during our first conference call. Dennis presented a synopsis of the process, explained that it would be privately published under Adducent’s “Familia and Amici” imprint, and that if I could meet the schedule’s deadlines, the project would be completed by Christmas. And it was! I received the books mid-November. But more importantly, Dennis treated this private memoir as if it were a new book from a best-selling author. His professionalism, attention to detail, responsiveness to my wishes, and his dedication to excellence regarding every aspect of the book including the design of the book jacket were outstanding. I could not have been more pleased with the quality of the final product, and the feedback I have received from family and friends has been amazing. Thank you, Dennis, for publishing my husband’s story. It is a treasure.”Mary Jo Bieberich. [The following is about a 707,267-word series] “Dennis Lowery worked for me as a ghostwriter on a four-book historical fiction project for over five years. I never once regretted hiring him. He answered every single one of my emails over that period—even just acknowledging he had received a comment. He delivered top-quality fiction writing in a very consistent and punctual manner. He met every one of the hundreds of milestones we set for writing these books. The book series has received very good reviews and is being marketed to film and TV producers by a film media company. Dennis also helps his clients get their books into publishable format and navigate publication, something that is harder than it sounds. His graphics team also helped develop some very professional-looking book covers. I give Dennis Lowery and Adducent five stars out of five.” — Dr. Ward Sanford, publisher, Stadia Books LLC.

“I wholeheartedly recommend Dennis Lowery and the Adducent team. Dennis guided me through two books: REVEALED: A Once-a-Week Reading to Understand Racism, Prejudice, and Bias, published in 2023, and Daughters of the Dream: Eight Girls from Richmond who Grew Up in the Civil Rights Era, published in 2018. He was always on time and prepared for our meetings, offered clear guidance on editorial changes that improved both books’ flow, readability, and marketability, and was genuinely interested in the topics. We met the established timeline without it being onerous or stress-producing. Dennis is a lifelong learner, always seeking to understand your topic at a meaningful depth. He has a great team, including his daughters, whose insights and reactions I sought on a couple of occasions. If I write a third book, I hope Adducent is interested and I can work with Dennis Lowery again.” —Tamara Lucas Copeland, Former President, Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers (recently renamed Philanthropy DMV), December, 2023

“Well, I read it… and all I have to say is “DAMMIT!” too short… you had me all sucked in with it. 😀 Really it was like a movie in the pace it’s to be read at. A lot going on. Excellent short story Dennis Lowery. I really enjoyed it, and there is definitely room to make it into a longer story. Not to stroke your ego, but you do a wonderful job of immediately pulling someone into a story. I had been reading a long novel by Gore Vidal called Creation. It’s an excellent book, but it takes a bit to get into it. To compare the two (which really isn’t fair to either of you) it’s like taking a pleasant drive in a mild convertible (the book I was reading), then suddenly, you round the corner and you’re in a 1000hp beast pushing the corners hanging on tight to the steering wheel. 😀 That was what it felt like when I mentally shifted gears and got pulled into your story. Well done, well done.” –Dan Syes, about All I Am [expanded into THE LAST AUGUR | ARRIVAL]

“After successfully publishing eight books with university and commercial presses, I discovered Dennis Lowery and his company, Adducent. Through this remarkable company, I found that in addition to the expert professionalism of the businesses with whom I had previously published, I could also enjoy time-saving production with unique personal attention, quick access, patient guidance, creative design, and remarkable order and organization. If ever I’m inclined to lament that I did not meet Dennis Lowery earlier in my career, I celebrate rather that I have been blessed to work with him on my three recent books. I have found my publishing home. I am honored to share some of my enthusiasm about your work.” –Daryl [Dr. Daryl Cumber Dance, Professor of English, Emerita, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Richmond, recipient of (partial list): The Sojourner Truth Award from The African American Studies Program of George Mason University, Zora Neale Hurston Award, National Association of Black Storytellers Annual Conference, Phi Beta Sigma Outstanding Faculty Award, VCU, VCU Humanities and Sciences Distinguished Research Award, Fifty Caribbean Writers named an outstanding reference book by Library Journal, VCU Arts and Sciences Lecturer Award, Black Arts Award for Excellence in the Literary Arts]

“Writing is hard, but becoming a writer is even harder.  If you are considering writing a book, you owe it to yourself to consider working with Dennis Lowery and Adducent.  You’ll be thankful you did. I could not be happier with the service, support, and guidance I received from Dennis during writing my first book.  While his editorial skill, experience, attention to detail, and professionalism far exceeded my expectations, Dennis’ commitment to his craft and clients sets him apart from the crowd.  Dennis guided me not just through the writing process but through the process of becoming a writer.  He helped me understand the demands of story creation, how to structure my work, and how to work within that structure while remaining a positive and dependable mentor at every turn.  To say that he went above and beyond for me as an author and student is saying too little. I cannot recommend Dennis highly enough.  He is a true craftsman.  Don’t sell yourself or your story short; reach out to him and Adducent today for help with your writing project.” –Jon N.; Former Army Officer and National Security Official [Details under Nondisclosure Agreement until publication]

When we first talked about the memoir, you mentioned that it could be accomplished in time for Christmas. Thanks to you and your staff for managing the schedule so efficiently. I am very happy to have Ron’s Memoir to gift this Christmas. It was an excellent experience; you made it very easy for me, and I was constantly impressed with your professionalism, kindness, understanding, and patience.  “I was a first-time author attempting to write a memoir of my life and career. After spending the better part of a year developing a manuscript, it became clear that to complete the project and get it published, I required professional assistance. Dennis Lowery and his company, Adducent, were recommended primarily because he was both honest and professional. What he said you could rely on. Those initial comments were certainly true after spending considerable time working through the various points in the stages for my book. His suggestions regarding some elements in the manuscript were always well thought through and made the story much stronger. He was highly organized and very responsive to whatever request I asked of him. His communication and our working relationship was excellent, which is not always the case when dealing with some companies. I believe he takes a definite interest in the project worked on and strives to make the end product a more valuable piece of literature. Dennis is an accomplished author and publisher with vast experience. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone trying to develop and publish a book, whether it be fiction or nonfiction. He is a former Sailor who owns his publishing company. Simply put – he was prompt, professional, and perfect to help bring “Fortune Favors Boldness” to life … one of only 12 books currently on the CNO Professional Reading List. His belief in the story and confidence in the product ensured generations of Sailors, Marines, and Coastguardsmen will know the tale of heroic activities at the beginning of OIF. I recommend him to all of you future authors to tell your stories such that they can be preserved for those who follow!” –Barry Costello, president of The Costello Group, Vice Admiral, USN (retired).

The following Advance Reader Comments are on a draft novella working-titled DAMNATION, The ShadowRipper. That story has been expanded and is part of Black Sun Shadows, Book Two of a trilogy in our Quondam Series in development.

“Rick Blackerd is your typical human–thrown into life without any warning. Except that life for him is that much worse–he has inherited a gift/curse, with little enough idea how to handle it. He can see the evil in people’s shadows, and rip it out. There is a brooding sense of menace in the story as it progresses, the hint that a good man is going to face choices you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. A good man, someone you care about. A fellow human.” –J.D.

“This story grabbed me and held me captive from the moment I read, Part 1. Each morning, I have looked forward to each new episode posted. Morning coffee is even better with Rick Blackerd! “Awesome!” –Mary Andrew, about The Wastrel

“I highly recommend Dennis Lowery for his editorial expertise and creative writing skills. His professionalism, courtesy, imaginative ideas and counseling are priceless. He has a gift for cutting out the unnecessary, reworking problem areas, and getting to the meat of a piece, not only in fiction, but especially nonfiction. Dennis is a top-notch professional, and master in his field.” –Bobbie Today, Clinical Practice Manager, R.N., Interventional Pain Specialists, LinkedIn Recommendation

“You are a master of descriptive prose.” –Raul Interiano, about the Advance Reader excerpt from a novel in work, The Broken Sigil.

“If you are a football fan like I am, Til the End by Joseph Patrick & Dennis Lowery is one of those stories of privilege, coverups, drugs… all the negatives you hear about. One fatal mistake doesn’t matter why, and the actions they take will come back to haunt them. The repercussions are like the butterfly affect…a stone in the water and the ripples spread. I started reading this and thought, this is a story for teens, it’s not doing it for me, BUT by the time I was done, I felt so sad for the young men. The story brought tears to my eyes as….well, I started to share waaaaaay too much. I think all young sports players should take a look at Til the End. Maybe it should be required reading for school. Maybe we could all learn a lesson.” –Sherry Fundin

“I came to Dennis Lowery on the recommendation of my friends Vice Admiral Tom Church and Vice Admiral Bill Sullivan. I had reached out to them after having less than positive experiences with other publishing entities. They assured me of Dennis’ professionalism, his attention to detail, and his ability to bring one’s project to life. My wife Sharon and I worked with Dennis over the period of a year and found Tom and Bill’s assurances to be right on the money. He was very responsive, had a “can do” attitude, and allowed us the freedom to bring “Fortune Favors Boldness” to life with recommendations (without any heavy-handed edits others might have imposed). I strongly recommend Dennis to any individual or company desiring to enter the publishing arena. He made it all happen, and we are forever in his debt. I’d be happy to speak directly to anyone looking to follow our footsteps with Dennis.” Barry M. Costello, Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy (retired).

“I absolutely loved all the stories in this collaboration of dark tales. It is the perfect mixture of science fiction and horror. BLINDED and All I Am [planned for expansion] are by far the best tales depicted in the book. At the end of the first chapter of BLINDED it sent chills throughout my body and I couldn’t stop reading it. All I Am will leave you wanting more with its perfect balance of suspense and horror. Every story stands alone with its own unique twist and tension.” –Amazon Review of NIGHT DESCENDS, a collection of stories from Dennis Lowery. NOTE: This collection is not currently available. It’s being updated to include new expanded versions of some stories and additional content.

“I am also indebted to Dennis Lowery, president of Adducent without whose guidance, support, and encouragement this book could not have been published. “Dennis, I just loved it, actually read it twice… Forgive me but I see romance in so much, and when she asked ‘What will you do with me?’ It’s not what you wrote, but the way you wrote it, that made it come alive. Also, when she said ‘You’re a man,’ all of “his” response was so well-written. I promise not to reveal too much of the story because I encourage everyone to read it, but when each character shared their story of pain and courage; different but yet familiar, and she said: ‘To fly…’ and stated her outcome so far. I had to take a break from the story; I felt tears running down my face because it became so real to me… The ending was surprising but great. What a great message in this story… Thank you for sharing your great gift with me. A great, compelling, short story… ‘Wings’ touched me deeply, your writing moves me!” –Bernice Joe, about WINGS

“It’s not easy for me to be brief because there’s a lot, I can say about him. But I’ll try: I first contacted Mr. Dennis Lowery in 2014 to discuss my story about the Vietnam war. Now, years later, we have completed three book projects—novels—together. Two about the war in Vietnam and persecution and escape afterward, and another about how a combat wounded [Iraq] veteran saves a pit bull from being euthanized and how that dog, in turn, saved her life. Dennis provided me with tremendous assistance in developing the plots, structuring the books, editing and proofreading the final drafts. I have also learned a lot about publishing from Dennis and that you can tell your story, write your book and send your message to the readers at large, without depending on major publishers. Last but not least, I appreciate the opportunity to work with such an intelligent, decent and good man.” –Duyen Nguyen, Esq.

“Your words are so colorful that I was actually able to ‘see’ your memories as you painted them on the page. I could hear the laughter of the girls as they were running around and having fun in your backyard. I love reading your stuff.” —Brenda Church, about HOME TREES

“When I came across this book, I was interested in the suspense that was described, although I have no liking for football what so ever. I decided to give this a try based on the reviews and I am so glad that I did. This book is a very simple read and it’s written in a laid-back style that allows me to enjoy this book without too much concentration. The writer wastes no time introducing the key stars in this book, Ryan, Tyler, Avery, and Jacob. I like that I knew exactly who each of the boys were right from the beginning of the book, and I was able to gauge their character and have a better understanding of their actions as the book progressed. The football scenes in the book were tolerable for me and I was continuously engaged and kept wanting to read more, especially when the action begins in the story.” –Ashlie Walton, from her Amazon review of ‘Til the End

“An excellent read and one which will totally captivate any person who played high school sports.” –Robert Steven Thomas, Amazon USA Top 200 Review, about Til the End, A Novel by Joseph Patrick With Dennis Lowery

“A Great story! This is a very interesting read. Perhaps it should be used as an example, or reminder that life is not a video game, you can’t reset the screen or reload the game, once something is done, it cannot be undone – you must live with the consequences for life, the buck stops with you!” –Susan Keefe, about Til the End

“Awesome book!” –Rick Gnacke, about Til the End, A Novel by Joseph Patrick With Dennis Lowery

“Dreams die hard in Michigan author Joseph Patrick33’s dark, relentless and, at times, crushing novel, ‘Til The End, about four high school football stars overflowing with high hopes, unlimited talent, wild ambition and some increasingly dark secrets. This novel will grab you like a football cleat grabs turf on page one and keep you guessing until the final page. The author is concerned with how the choices we make define our lives and the lives of those we love. ‘Til The End is about what the author describes as “unpredictable fate” that can turn on a dime and take our greatest dreams and aspirations to places unimaginable in our worst hours. Familiarity with the settings, along with an ability to create jaw-dropping, dramatic scenes spanning 1988 to 1993, allow the author to maintain an authenticity that resonates and never feels contrived. He also has a sharp ear for the kind of dialogue that keeps the overall narrative rushing toward what is inevitably more hard knocks and defeats for the four friends who once swore solidarity and are now separated geographically. In the end, the author brings it all back home to Shelby Township with this cautionary, heartbreaking novel. Just as sports often imitates life with its glory, passion, promise and thrill of victory, ‘Til The End portrays the impossibility of hiding from secrets, erasing the past or carrying on lives filled with lies. The author is a championship storyteller and his novel succeeds in us showing how we all pay, in one way or another, for the choices we make. We may not be able to control fate, according to the author, but ‘Til The End brilliantly underscores how facing reality like a full—body tackle can make us all winners at our very core.” –John J. Kelly

“Michigan author Joseph Patrick33 is likely using a nom de plume: that would explain the ‘33’ tacked on the end of his name. It is nearly impossible to believe that this is his debut into the literary field as ‘TIL THE END is a major achievement and one that signals the arrival of an important new voice in American literature. As far as background information we are only informed that he has 11 years of higher education earning degrees at the bachelors, masters and doctorate level, area of concentration not shared. He does acknowledge assistance from Dennis Lowery, a highly skilled author whose many books indicate his vast life experiences and technique of expression have aided many other authors. So Joseph opens this fine novel with a conundrum. Joseph does share that his first novel may be fiction, but within that fiction are the keys to facts that every reader will discover and find universals within the events of the story and the characters that ring true to each of our life journeys. And that is one of the many reasons this new author is important to watch. The novel is set outside Detroit from 1988 to 1991, and in that three year timeframe we learn the intricacies of each of the four lads’ destinies which in retrospect as the book ends allows us entry into the interstices of coming of age, promises of glory, the dark finger of fate, and the impact of misjudged bonds of a lie and strange dissolution of dreams as tainted by those factors we all recognize as deterrents to a happy life. This is not only an important debut novel: this is a very finely written important novel about choices. Highly Recommended.” –Grady Harp, Top 100 Reviewer

“Intense from the beginning, the author creates four major characters with whom readers can connect and sympathize. Each one must keep a mutual, dangerous secret that will twist and turn his entire future. Found ‘Til the End’ to be a poignant, gut-wrenching morality lesson of good and bad decisions based on life’s uncertainties.” –Darlene Hood

“This is a very finely written important novel about choices. Highly Recommended.” –excerpt from an Amazon review of ‘Til the End.

“In 2015, I received lots of advice and help offered by well-meaning individuals after I completed writing my book, Fixing Washington. But dozens of emails and voice messages to agents and publishing houses went unanswered over many months. In late fall of that year, I contacted Dennis Lowery at Adducent, and the response was immediate and most positive. He provided invaluable insight, suggestions and help with content editing and format and, in some cases identified sections of the book that could be deleted entirely, to improve the narrative in my book. The entire experience and relationship were better than I could have ever hoped for, and the book was published, by his company, with excellent reviews. I have referred two other individuals to Mr. Lowery since and I know that one of those has recently had his book published by his company, Adducent, as well. He was similarly impressed by the outstanding encouragement and support he received. Dennis Lowery is absolutely the first person I would turn to if I should write another book, or a follow-on version to Fixing Washington 2016!” —Tom Church, Vice Admiral, USN (Retired)

“Another great short! Lowery is truly a Jack of all pens; is there any genre the man can’t write?” –E. W. Johnson, in a review of All I Am (an 8,874-word short story, planned for expansion)

“Dennis Lowery allowed me to realize my dream of publishing a memoir of my Navy career, SEA DETAIL, in order to leave a record for my family and friends. He was an absolute pleasure to work with, professionally editing my amateur transcript, making solid recommendations, and tightening up the text. Dennis works fast, quickly turning each version so that we could both review and improve the product. He was always available to answer questions and make recommendations. Having begun my effort with a different publisher, I can tell you that the process was remarkably streamlined under Dennis’ watchful eye and mentorship. I highly recommend Dennis Lowery (his company, Adducent) to anyone planning, or hoping, to publish their book.” –William D. Sullivan, Vice Admiral, USN (Retired)

“I honestly can’t wait to read more.” –Brenda Church, about the scene, The Night Bridge now included in a story within our Quondam Series

“A beautiful story!! You are great!! –Tammy Coker Collins, about The Sweetest Hours

“Oh my word… amazing… I laughed at the part where he didn’t say goodbye that first morning… brilliant… and cried at the part where he, lovingly cooked for his wife and studied her, without any negative words of the coolness that had come between them. And a perfect ending, my friend. You are more than talented Dennis Lowery. Thank you for sharing your work with us!!!” –Tracie Parker, about The Sweetest Hours

“Your writing amazes me! I truly think you could write about anything. You draw me in from the first phrase and leave me wanting more with the last. I know this is an excerpt but even when your short stories end there could be more.” –Janet L. Mix, about In the Shadows [an excerpt from a ghostwritten novel, shared with client’s permission]

“Dennis Lowery comes up with some excellent stuff, usually targeted at his own young teens. However, since he’s a good writer, he often converts it into a story, allegory or essay that has applicability across the spectrum. So, here’s a piece about identifying ‘good’ but ‘negative’ people, and the impact they have. The sad truth is that some people are emotional drains. All the love in the world won’t prevent them from sucking down other people’s lives. They need treatment, and mere love won’t do the job. Beware of them. Particularly, don’t get into long term relationships with them, without setting up protection for your own mental health.” –Jyoti Q Dahiya, about About Being Good to Others

“Thanks, Dennis Lowery. I wish my Dad had written that for me 40 years ago…but then again, I probably wouldn’t have listened. Sometimes ‘being good’ to each other means walking away from them in order to maintain self-respect and save ourselves. In some way, I believe that does help them grow, and maybe even consider changing their path. Maybe not. We’re only human, after all.” –Bobbie Z., about About Being Good to Others

“A special thanks to Dennis Lowery. His professionalism and input were instrumental in bringing this book true to form.” –from writing client, Joseph Patrick33 (their pseudonym). A Michigan author who grew up in Shelby Township (the primary location of the novel, ‘Til the End). He has 11 years of higher education earning degrees at the bachelors, masters and doctorate level. The creative aspects of ’Til the End were sparked by personal interests and subject matter that not only intrigues, but seems to find its way into the vast majority of our lives. In addition to the struggles of real life, Joseph Patrick33 wanted to capture the essence of unpredictable fate. Although most of the characters are jaded, he believes you will find little pieces of them within us all. No matter how your mind perceives this book, always know that even within fiction there can be true meaning.

[This came in via separate comments so I’ve edited for clarity and to join the two together.] “Just finished reading it, and you certainly have to keep building on this story. The world wants more of this Dennis 🙂 I really liked it and it especially hit its stride once you toned down the Sci Fi techno terms from the first chapter. The humanness in it, the small touches and grounded everyday people, their little things, doings and feelings is what sold me. The swift action itself was made the stronger because of the moshy stuff, and vice versa, a very well balanced story – a little Game of Thrones’esque in that regard. Well, different times and writing of course, but part-brutal action has its well-deserved place in a good character driven fictional story and I think you did that balancing act very well here. So now you just have to write a full-fledged book, or why not an entire universe since I am sure there is room for many books hidden in this short story.” –Michael Koontz, about All I AM [planned for expansion]

So, I get a sense of what they are feeling about it in almost real time. *Here is what Bobbie sent me once she’d had her coffee: “Believing is seeing. Coincidentally, strike that, I don’t actually believe in coincidence, but I happened to read an article just yesterday morning that discussed why many never find their purpose. It mentioned this very concept…and reminded me of something I’ve always understood to be true, that we see exactly what we’re looking for, in most situations throughout our lives. We see what we are ready to see. I cannot tell you how deeply this story affected me. I was drawn in from the very first song lyrics. I found myself singing each familiar tune along in my head, and as it always does, allowing the music to work as a time machine. In so many ways, I related to this tale. I loved how you wove now and then together through wakening and dreaming happenings. I loved the premise of light and dark, and the lens we all use to focus on what matters most to us… love, understanding, even forgiveness reaching back to heal the misunderstandings of the past. I adored the SPOILER REMOVED helping lead the SPOILER REMOVED. I loved that SPOILER REMOVED… Just everything, the genre, the photography, the history, the family secrets, the decade, kept me glued to the pages. (I actually found myself attempting to turn the pages on my iPad as if it were a bound book.) Wonderful tale, Dennis Lowery. You outdid yourself. Thank You. Devoted Reader, Bobbie.”

You work is very descriptive and leaves nothing to wonder as to when, how, what and why. I find it is a brilliant novel about friendship, and I use this word in the truest form only, it is also about true love. How it surpasses all time and into everlasting. You have shown this all inside your novella. A story about of the past and present so intertwined but yet so meticulously laid out it flows through every time period. You have a talent I see for time change. Below are a few notes I have taken as I read by chapter. I thought I would include them.” –Randa Wilson, about Through a Lens of Dark & Light. That was excellent and I’m extremely impressed. “I like this a lot. I like how everything in his world was ‘Half’ and how even though the shop where he worked was half sized, they were viewed by him as painted hopeful. Even the observation of the coming and going of people were perceived as half-hearted. To me, the walls are symbolic because of his perception of them. As if he compared everything to them. I’d like to even say that these very walls were the ones he created in his mind, thoughts that reflect something more wholesome. I think your story matches the image quite well. I think he realizes that the half way street might only seem half way. I believe that the reality of the hopeful-colored walls becomes clear to him, and he decides to no longer only live in his head, but instead convey those thoughts into action…. and the journey begins. Nice read my friend. I hope my own interpretation wasn’t too much or lengthy. Thank you.” –CD, about HALF

“Very nice creative writing. I really like this paragraph: ‘Her smile broadens with just a hint of sharp teeth at the corners. It is a sweet smile just the same and she knows how fetching she is.
